Elizabeth, pictured here with one of her dairy cows though requesting funding for poultry business, is a mother of six children aged between 18 and 10 years. She lives with her family in their rural home in Kitale area of Rift Valley Province of Kenya where she carries out a farming business; beans, milk, maize, eggs, and vegetables are her major produce for the local market.
Elizabeth has requested a loan of 30,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to buy poultry. She says she will be able to diversify her farming business with the loan capital and generate enough income to meet her family basic needs.
Elizabeth faces the following challenges; poultry diseases and poor market prices for agricultural produce.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
