Khadijeh is a 40-year-old married woman from Lebanon. She is living with her husband and three school-aged children. In 2006, and in order to supplement the family’s income, she decided to start her own work as a farmer. Her job consists of cultivating all kinds of fruits and vegetables. She also uses plastic tents to be able to protect her cultivations before being harvested. She cooperates with her husband who has been working in the construction field for a few years.
Today, she is asking to borrow a loan from Kiva partner Ameen s.a.l to equip her land with the needed plastic tents in addition to seeds and fertilizer. She states that the loan will certainly help her increase her business productivity by a large percentage, which will return higher profits to her. In the future, she plans to open a shop and start selling her own harvested goods.
Due to political and social challenges in Lebanon, personally identifiable attributes entrepreneurs may have been altered to protect their privacy (i.e., blurring portions of the borrower's picture, not indicating a name and location, etc.). Vitas appreciates Kiva lenders' understanding of these challenges and encourages them to continue their support for Lebanon's borrowers.
