Niebich is a new member of PMPC. She is 42 years old and married with 3 children. She engages in the buying and selling of copra. She has been doing this for 15 years and earns Php 5,000 each month. She decided to become a member of PMPC to have access to financial services to support her business. She took out her first loan from PMPC in the amount of Php 30,000 to buy more copra to sell. She plans to use the profit to improve the living conditions of her family and support the educational needs of her children.
About Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative
Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PMPC) was founded in 1992 by the beneficiaries, parents and staff of the Paglaum Community Development Foundation to address economic and livelihood activities for sustainability. The organization operates in the northwestern provinces of Mindanao and Visayas.
In the local vernacular, “paglaum” means “hope.” The initial foundation is dedicated to child development through a holistic approach. The goal is to build self-reliance and expand opportunity so the poorest of the poor can help themselves.
