Thavy is 49 years old, married, and has two children. She lives in a rural area located in the Ou Reang Ov district of Kampong Cham province. To support the family, she has been a rice farmer on one hectare of farmland for 20 years. She supplements the family’s income by raising pigs and working for others. Her current business earns about 20,000 KHR a day and she saves about 12,000 KHR a day after daily expenses.
Thavy is requesting her first loan with VisionFund for $500, which she will use to buy fertilizers for her farmland, piglets, and pig feeds. She hopes to increase her income from the current business so as to improve her standard of living.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
