Cheang is a 42-year-old mother of four children, three of whom have their own employment. The rest of her family is residing in Pursat province's Bakan district, where rice crop production is one of the common businesses among the villager. She makes a living from her one hectare of rice field while her husband is not only helping with her paddy farm but also works for others for a fee to better support the household. She has been engaged in this business for 22 years, earning about 5,800 KHR per day. Cheang's group consists of three members, all of them are first loan cycle clients and she is the group leader. She and one of her fellow group member are applying for 500,000 KHR each whereas the remaining co-member is seeking 1,000,000 KHR. Cheang will use her loan portion to buy fertilizer and to pay the plowing fee for her farmland. She expects to gain more yield so she can improve the standard of living for her family.
