Charbel is a 43-year-old Lebanese man. He lives with his wife and three children in their modest house located in a beautiful Lebanese village. Two of his children are still attending school while the other has started to work. Charbel has spent the last 13 years working as a home electrician. He works independently on a freelance basis. Charbel has always wanted to better develop his business and improve his work, but he has never had enough income. For that reason, he decided to take a loan from Kiva partner Ameen s.a.l to purchase a car in order to facilitate transportation to his clients' homes. He says that this loan will help him take on more projects, increasing his income by 15 per cent. In the future, he wishes to open his own electrical equipment shop in order to continue to meet his family's needs.
Due to political and social challenges in Lebanon, personally identifiable attributes entrepreneurs may have been altered to protect their privacy (i.e., blurring portions of the borrower's picture, not indicating a name and location, etc.). Vitas appreciates Kiva lenders' understanding of these challenges and encourages them to continue their support for Lebanon's borrowers.
