Claudia Maritza
Claudia began to work in the activity of sewing eleven years ago when she started work in a tailoring company. After three years working there, she decided, with a lot of effort, to set up her own tailoring workshop in her house, looking to generate a greater income to offer her family a better quality of life and better economic opportunities in order to progress. In spite of the fact that her workshop began with very poor economic resources, thanks to her efforts she has been able to get ahead and now she has the opportunity to generate employment for a person very much in need. Looking to generate another job, Claudia seeks a loan to buy a tabletop sewing machine and supplies like cloth and thread in order to provide the working tools for the new job that she will create in her workshop.

Her dream is to be able to continue moving forward with this business and to continue making progress together with her husband and two children, offering them a better quality of life and greater economic opportunities.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
