Ruby Dalila
Ruby is a single mother head of household, with a 12 year-old son. She has worked hard to provide him with a better quality of life and with access to a high quality education. To do so, she has a store where she sells clothing, principally ladies’ blouses, which she makes herself in her home. In this way, Ruby has the opportunity to earn greater profits for her products because she does not pay a provider for the manufactured items; she simply buys the materials and makes them herself.

Despite the fact that she started her business with very little capital and she has few resources, her hard work has enabled her to get ahead and offer her clients very high quality products, thanks to which she is having some good sales. Ruby is requesting a loan to purchase supplies, such as fabric and thread in order to make the blouses she needs for her business so she can meet her customers’ demands.

Her dream is to be able to move her business forward and in the future generate jobs for people in need. As well, she aspires to have a better quality of life for herself and her son in their home and to have better opportunities to get ahead.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
