For over two years, Lilia, a 54-year-old, single woman, has made a living in Alegria, Aurora, through the operation of a general store selling a variety of food and home-use products. She earns 6,000 a month for these activities.
In 2007, Lilia joined GDMPC to gain access to financial services to help improve her business and living situation. She is now requesting a loan of 10,000 to purchase new items such as candies, Milo (a brand of malted milk), shampoo, soaps etc. She plans to use the additional revenue generated from the loan as a reserve for future emergencies.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
