Cosmas is a resident and a farmer in Nkubu area of Central Kenya, a region known for high production of khat and bananas. He has been in mixed farming for eight years, producing mainly bananas, cereals, milk and poultry. He runs a retail shop and a grocery business. He is married with one child aged four years.
Cosmas has requested a loan of 30,000 KES which he will use to buy poultry birds. He says he has skills in poultry business and that while there are challenges such as poultry diseases, high cost of labour and generally high cost of farming inputs he remains optimistic. He reiterates he will use the additional income to educate his child and improve his family's living standards.
He notes Juhudi Kilimo loan processing is very efficient.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
