Sulaiman is aged thirty and has been in farming for ten uninterrupted years with bananas, cereals and milk being his main produce. He runs a retail shop as well. He is married with one child aged two years.
Sulaiman has made a loan request for 40,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to buy irrigation equipment to facilitate having an adequate water supply on his farm. He says this will ease management of his dairy cows and improve his milk output and his banana plantation which he wants to expand to three acres.
Sulaiman points out that pests and the high cost of labour pose the greatest challenges in the farming business.
