"Always Friends" is a communal bank formed by 18 women who live near the parish of Valle en Cuenca, a place that has beautiful countryside in which one can enjoy the warmth and beauty of nature. The people of Valle de Cuenca are friendly and gentle, like the members of the community bank, who work daily to better the economies of their homes and seek a better future for their families. They work at jobs of the countryside like agriculture and the raising of animals commercially. Many also work in the city at various different kinds of jobs.

One of the members of this group is Carmen Lucia. She is 35 years old and is the single mother of one 4 year old son, who this year will begin to study in a small school in the city. She doesn't have her own house so she lives in her grandmother's house, who helps her with the household costs and gives her company.

Carmen Lucia is a professional dressmaker. She has had a small shop for the last 4 years where she makes "polleras" (typical dresses of the region) and blouses. She also raises livestock, especially cattle.

Her new loan will be used for the purchase of cloth and thread for her business.

Her dream is to own her own home.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
