Maria Elena
María is a 43 year old woman who lives in the city of Ica with her 2 children, whom she loves and who are the main purpose in her life. Unfortunately, for various reasons, María are her partner separated many years ago. Since then, she has been responsible for her family. María is a very kind, hard-working, and enthusiastic person. Regrettably, she wasn't able to study a professional career, but she would have really liked to be a teacher. In her free time, she enjoys preparing delicious desserts and on special occasions, she makes a delicious "Chanfainita" (a Peruvian stew containing cow's lung, potatos, etc.) to share with her family.

With a lot of persistance, enthusiasm and thanks to the support of her sister, María started up her own small business selling breakfasts as a street vendor. Everyday, beginning in the early hours of the morning, she starts her work and can work approximately 10 hours a day. She thinks it is going well because of the good seasonings she uses and the kind treatment she gives to her customers.

María is very grateful to the Kiva lenders, since thanks to the help being offered to her, she will be able to purchase a tricycle (cart), a small stove, tables, and chairs for her business. In this way, María will have the necessary transportation and equipment to be able to sell her breakfasts. Thus, she hopes to increase her sales and her income, which will allow her in the not too distant future to open a restaurant, with which she will continue working and struggling so that she and her family can move forward together.
