Luz Adriana
Luz Adriana’s married and has two children who are 6 and 10 years old. Because the income her husband generated was insufficient to meet all household expenses she decided to open her own business so that she could contribute economically to the family while still being able to watch her children. This is how she set up a general store at home where she stocks basic staples for her customers and thanks to this her family’s quality of life has been improving. She hopes to be able to overcome her home’s economic difficulties.

The greatest opportunity this business has afforded her is to be able to provide her children with access to a better quality education and this is why she works hard every day so that it will continue providing her family with better possibilities. Aiming at increasing the variety of products she has in stock, Luz Adriana is looking for financing to buy basic staple items and thus offer more variety to her customers.

Her greatest dream is to move the business forward so that she can provide a better quality of life for her family and to have better financial wherewithal for their support. In addition, she hopes in future that it will be a source of income that will lead to her reaching her greatest dream: to get a house of her own for her family.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
