Aged 60 years old, Thida is a single woman living in a rural village of the Kandal Stoeng district of Kandal province, Cambodia. She has been in rice farming for 20 years to make a living as the primary source of income. She supplements her income by selling grocery items such as sugar, salt, eggs, etc.
Thida received her first loan with Kiva’s partner VisionFund one loan cycle ago. The past loan has helped her to expand her current business and improve her livelihood. Now, she is requesting a loan of $500. Thida is going to use this loan to buy fertilizer and to pay the plowing fee for her paddy field. She will also use a portion of it to buy more grocery items for selling. She hopes to earn more income from the current business so as to improve her family’s lifestyle.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
