The loan that the they will take out will be for their small businesses where Sandra is a member. She tells us that it was a year ago when a friend who is a member invited her to join. Currently she has a liquor store. She says that some years ago she worked in a liquor store and since then has continued in this area. Later she decided to open her own store and to be independent.

She will use the loan to increase her capital (purchasing liquors) and will buy from one of distributors and then sell it in her store. This type of work allows her to generate income to support her family as much as possible. She is married and has a son.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer she tells us that she likes the institution because they believe in women.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
