Phal is a permanent resident of the Kandal Stoeung district of Kandal province, Cambodia. His family consists of four members, including his wife and his two children.
He is a rice farmer on more than one hectare of farmland, from which he is able to earn about 8 US dollars per day. The main challenge for his family is the dropping price of his crop, which affects his income for supporting the household's daily expenses.
Phal has never been with VisionFund before. He is taking this first loan of 260 US dollars in order to pay plowing and harvesting fees. He expects to receive more yield and sell it during the mark up period for rice, so he can improve his lifestyle.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
