Haxhi is a 63-year-old married male with three grown children. He lives in the southwestern part of Kosovo in the Ashkali Community. The Ashkali community in Kosovo suffers from great poverty. It is uncommon for a family from this community to deal with livestock such as Haxhi does; he is one of the rare cases. More than four years ago Haxhi started an agricultural business for the family needs and to provide for them. Now by demand of the neighborhood he has started to sell milk for others in his community.

He has been selling fresh milk to the local dairy farm and has made a good living and profit from this so far. To generate even more income he also works on viticulture. He is requesting a loan to buy a cow. In the future he plans to add more cows and to increase his business and milk production. He is aware that without KosInvest’s / Kiva support his goal will be difficult to achieve. He really appreciates all the support from the lenders.

More information about this loan

This loan will support the economic aspirations of minority people in Kosovo. Roma people and ethnic Serbians have historically faced a tremendous amount of hardship in Kosovo, and are still socioeconomically and politically vulnerable. During the 1998-1999 war, the fighting displaced 250,000 people. Among those displaced were an estimated 80-90% of the region’s Roma population. Today, Roma and ethnic Serbians living in Kosovo still face discrimination and are excluded from many aspects of society, including fair political representation and high rates of unemployment. By supporting this loan you are helping provide opportunity to marginalized populations.
