The Amistad (Friendship) Association has been part of the family of Pro-Mujer (Pro-woman) for several years, complying with the terms of the previous 19 rounds of financing. The association is based in Alto Lima area, city of El Alto. Currently, it has 15 members and has proved to be a well-organized group on account of their loan repayment track record.

Most members of the association are married with children, almost all of whom are of school age. A few of the children have been unable to attend school due to their families’ lack of resources, the need to assist their parents in running their small businesses, and caring for their younger siblings. Association members are engaged in a variety of activities such as sale of meat, dairy products, and under-garments. Their main activity, however, is production of sportswear, which they sell at fairs in La Paz.

They believe they need additional capital to purchase better quality fabrics for the production of higher quality sportswear to attract more customers and increase their profits. Their sole aim is to improve their standard of living so that they can provide their children with better opportunities in life, particularly in the area of education.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
