Amelia’s a very hardworking person who has been moving her own business forward with much effort. She started it three years ago looking for better economic conditions for her home. She used to work as an employee selling liquor and contributed her salary to help her husband cover household expenses but this was insufficient to cover all costs at home where she lives with her husband and three children who are currently attending university.

Because of this, Amelia decided to make the effort and use a little saving she had to start her own business selling liquor and thanks to her efforts she’s managed to move it forward and gradually overcome the economic difficulties that have arisen, especially the lack of capital to restock. Thanks the good sales she’s had, Amelia is looking for financing to buy liquor to stock her store with products that she’s been running out of.

In this way she will be able to overcome the problem of lack of business capital and will continue to earn income that will make it possible to continue to offer her three children access to a university education. Her dream is to have a great business through which her family can have a better quality of life and economic stability that will allow for economic progress.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
