Juan Guillermo
Juan Guillermo produces organic agricultural goods and raises animals, such as hens and chickens. He learned this work from his father, who taught him about it from the time Juan Guillermo was very young, which has given him great experience. The business generates the income Juan Guillermo needs to meet his household expenses, and also to offer a good quality of life and access to education for his nine-year-old son. Thanks to the fact that his business continues to grow, he has been able to overcome the economic difficulties he used to have at home, and now he has a lot of hens and chickens. Because the shed is very small, Juan Guillermo has to leave them outside. In order to improve this situation, Juan Guillermo is asking for a loan to build a larger shed with room for all the hens and chickens, also allowing him to offer better quality to his clients. His greatest dream is that the business will continue to grow, and that his son can achieve a better quality of life.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
