The group’s representative, by the name of Christine, is the one raising her hand in the photo. Christine is 41 years old. Her husband’s name is Désiré. Christine has had little school education. She is the mother of two children, both in in school and in her care. Christine lives with her children. The spouses provide for various family needs. In order to meet her expenses, for 11 years Christine has been selling miscellaneous items (snacks, canned food) in her neighborhood. This business allows her to provide for her needs without great difficulty. Christine stocks up at a market of Benin as well as in her region. With the goal of satisfying customer expectations and increasing her sales volume and her revenues, Christine, together with the other members of the Wuibatin group, is seeking her fourth loan from ALIDé. This loan will allow the group members to expand their businesses, growing their customer base and their revenues. The prior loans have been duly repaid.

Cette activité lui permet de répondre sans grande difficulté à ses besoins. Christine s’approvisionne dans un marché du Bénin et dans sa région. Dans la quête de la satisfaction de sa clientèle et pour accroître son chiffre d’affaires et son revenu, Christine sollicite ensemble avec les autres membres du groupe WUIBATIN, un quatrième crédit auprès de ALIDé. Ce prêt leur permettra de rehausser le niveau de leur activité et d’accroître leur clientèle et leur revenu. Les prêts antérieurs ont été bien remboursés.
Alidé is a Beninese NGO that works to reduce poverty by offering sustainable access to productive loans like this one in addition to savings, training sessions, and social work to low-income families.
Supporters of this loan should be aware that there is some risk of being repaid late. Because the Beninois Ministry of Finance has imposed restrictions on the amount of money Alidé can send to Kiva, the organization can only send monthly repayments in installments smaller than $13,000. This means that some Kiva lenders may receive their repayments late. However, Alidé remains a healthy institution in good standing with its creditors, and Kiva would like to continue working to support its clients. This is a Group Loan
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
