Hen is a 35-year-old mother of three children, some of whom are still in school. Her entire family is living in a rural area located in the Bovel district of Battambang province, Cambodia. She has two hectares of rice farm on which she is able to produce a rice crop twice per year. She and her husband have been in this business for seven years.
This will be her fourth loan; the previous loans, which she has paid back, enabled her to sustain her business and improve her family's livelihood. Now, she is taking out a new loan with Kiva partner VisionFund for $500. She will use this loan to buy fertilizer for her rice field. She hopes to grow her cash-crop in a timely manner so as to reach a great standard of living.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
