Luz Marleny
Luz Marleny recently separated from the father of her three children and since then she has been a single mother. As head of household she is supporting her children without relying on help from anyone. Therefore she has been working hard to overcome the economic difficulties this situation presemts so that she can provide a good quality of life for her children.

Formerly she was working for a company but because she had to care for her children she decided to resign and use the severance pay to start a vegetable store in a space very near her house so that she can run her business and make a living and also be available to her children. She has confronted a great many difficulties, however she has always held on to the hope that she will be able to get ahead and that her children will be able to have a better quality of life.

Looking to improve her business and increase sales, Luz Marlene is requesting a loan to purchase a cooler, an ad for her business, a scale and to stock her business with more fruits and vegetables.

Her dream is that this business will succeed and enable her to move her children forward by giving them a good quality of life and access to a good quality education.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
