Hernando
Hernando has worked since he was very young, as he comes from a family with very little money and when the need came up, he started work selling fast food in his municipality. He worked there for a while, bringing money home to his parents so they could have a chance at a better quality of life and better financial opportunities. However, because of problems with violence, he had to leave his municipality as an outcast and he came to the city looking for opportunities to get ahead financially. This is how he began selling fruit and vegetables and, with this business, he began to earn his living. Currently, Hernando has a son he provides with a good education and for whom he is completely responsible, as the mother abandoned them some time ago. Thanks to his good sales, his financial situation at home has been improving, which is why he is asking for a loan to buy the vegetables that he has run out of at his business.

His greatest dream is to offer his son a better quality of life and the opportunity to attend a university. He also dreams of buying his own home in the future.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
