Ms. Yandé, the group's official, is 42 years old, married, and the mother of seven children; she is active in selling smoked fish and vegetables. She capitalizes on good experience in this domain. In the photo, she is at the right dressed in a beige 'wax' cloth outfit with green flowers and wearing a black shawl over her head, and her left hand is raised.

She always purchases vegetables (carrots, turnips, cabbage, …) and smoked fish at the weekly markets and resells them in her village.

Her loan will be used to increase the amount of smoked fish and of vegetables to sell, so as to maximize her profits.

She helps her husband to support the family and cover day-to-day expenses; she also plans to save money in order to have financial autonomy.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
