The Walisuma Community Bank will soon begin its second loan cycle with Pro Mujer as part of the Patacamata group of businesses. There are thirteen members in Walisuma which has a board of directors headed by the President, Sra. Eliza. The members have a variety of businesses such as crafts made from limestone, selling potato flour and potatoes, buying and selling cattle and sheep, shopkeeper, soft drinks and beer selling, and fruit selling.

The loan they are seeking will benefit these small business people such as Eliza. She has been with Pro Mujer for two loan cycles, joining originally at the invitation of a facilitator from the institution who came to her house. Now she has run a business producing and selling potatoes and potato flour for many years.

Eliza plans to use her share of the loan to buy seeds for the next crop. She will buy them in the town of La Paz. After the harvest she will sell the produce locally and also at more distant markets. The income from this work allows her to support as best she can her family as she is married.

Eliza very much likes the information about health that Pro Mujer provides.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
