Hamdi
Hamdi is a married man who lives in the Roma community of Kosovo. In this community, it is traditional for people to play musical instruments at weddings. Hamdi has been doing this for more than 25 years and has been doing well.

As it is currently the summer, there is much money to be earned. The summer is a popular time for people to get married, which generates much business for him and he is well paid. Hamdi is requesting a loan so that he can buy two musical instruments.

The addition of these instruments will allow him to expand his repertoire and make even more money. His future goal is to expand his band and to open a training course for new musicians. Having this type of school will also provide him with an income in the winter time, which is typically slow due to the weather conditions and lack of people getting married or having celebrations.

Developing a way to provide an income for his family year round will provide much needed financial stability. He really appreciates this support!

More information about this loan

This loan will support the economic aspirations of minority people in Kosovo. Roma people and ethnic Serbians have historically faced a tremendous amount of hardship in Kosovo, and are still socioeconomically and politically vulnerable. During the 1998-1999 war, the fighting displaced 250,000 people. Among those displaced were an estimated 80-90% of the region’s Roma population. Today, Roma and ethnic Serbians living in Kosovo still face discrimination and are excluded from many aspects of society, including fair political representation and high rates of unemployment. By supporting this loan you are helping provide opportunity to marginalized populations.
