The members are engaged in a variety of businesses, including production of ice cream, the sale of sheep and cattle, and the sale of potatoes, potato starch and other food items.

This loan will benefit these small micro-businesses, including that of Victoria. She reports that the group has been working with Pro Mujer for one year. She was invited by a representative of Pro Mujer who went to her house to visit her. Currently she has a neighborhood grocery store. She reports that in the past she had a great deal of financial problems. For this reason she started a home-based business that generated good profits. The first loan that she took helped her to grow her business.

Victoria's portion of the loan proceeds will serve as working capital to buy cookies, sodas and other items. She will buy these items in the city of La Paz, and then sell them them in her community. This will allow her to generate income to support her family in the best way possible, since she is married and has five children.

When she was asked what she liked about Pro Mujer, she said that she likes the attention she receives.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
