A loan of $925 helped to buy fertilizer and coffee plants.

Felipe's story

Felipe started working while still little helping his mother in the farm his father left them. He and his brothers would rise very early to do various chores in the coffee plantation and with the passage of time acquired more land.

Felipe has been married to Saray for more than 30 years and they have two children. The entire family is involved in coffee production because there are many chores that must be done on the farm in order to have good yields.

During harvesting which is when there is the most work to do, Felipe hires six workers he pays according to the amount they cut. For the next harvest, Felipe needs to plant new plants and to buy fertilizer and to do all the chores needed to prepare the soil so that it will yield more. This is why he’s asking for a loan because it would be impossible to completely do these things otherwise.

Aside from coffee growing, Felipe and his family also have a small grocery store at home in order to earn extra income. He’d like to expand it in the future.
