Yous is 33 years old and lives in a rented room with her spouse in a suburban area of Phnom Penh. She is married and has two school-aged children.

To help her husband earn income, Yous has been operating a mobile business. Every day she uses her motorcycle (with a trailer behind her as shown in the picture) to go back and forth around her commune to sell soft drinks such as coffee, lemon tea, coca cola, sting (a type of drink), and pure drinking water.

With her profits, she can pay for food, home bills, accommodation costs, and her children's expenses. Yous dreams of having her own house in Phnom Penh, which is why she has tried hard and saved money for that purpose.

Yous would like to obtain a loan to supplement her savings in order to purchase a plot of land for future housing purposes. She hopes that this loan will be granted to her as it’s her first loan through HKL. In the future, Yous plans to save more money to build a house on this land and help her two children in their education.

About HKL

Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
