The group AFEPEB consists of four members who all live in the same district. The group’s representative is Germain, seen with his hand raised in the photo. To bolster their working capital, the group is seeking financial assistance from ALIDé for the fourth time.

Germain, age 55, left school at the secondary level. He is married to a woman named Félicité, and the couple have five children who have all received schooling. Two of them are still in their care. Germain and his wife live together with their children, and the couple handle the various household responsibilities together.

To provide for himself and his family, Germain has been selling palm oil from his home for nearly 18 years. He buys his supplies in a region of Benin. As a secondary activity, he also runs a local farm.

This fourth loan will help Germain and the other members of the group AFEPEB to bolster their activities, expand their customer base and increase their revenue. All past loans were successfully repaid.
AFEPEB est un groupe constitué de quatre personnes qui résident dans le même quartier. Le représentant (celui qui a la main levée sur la photo) se nomme Germain. Dans le but d’augmenter leur fonds de roulement, ce groupe sollicite pour la quatrième fois, un crédit auprès de ALIDé. Germain est âgé de 55 ans et est marié à Félicité. Le couple a cinq enfants, tous scolarisés, dont deux à leur charge. Germain a arrêté l’école au niveau secondaire. Germain vit ensemble avec sa femme et ses enfants et assure ensemble avec sa femme les diverses charges de la maison. Pour satisfaire ses besoins et ceux de sa famille, Germain vend de l’huile de palme depuis près de dix huit ans à son domicile. De façon secondaire, Germain est gérant d'une ferme dans sa région. Germain s’approvisionne dans une région du Bénin. Ce quatrième prêt permettra à Germain et aux autres membres du groupe AFEPEB, de rehausser le niveau de leur activité et d’accroître leur clientèle et leur revenu. Les crédits consentis antérieurement ont été bien remboursés.

Alidé is a Beninese NGO that works to reduce poverty by offering sustainable access to productive loans like this one in addition to savings, training sessions, and social work to low-income families.

Supporters of this loan should be aware that there is some risk of being repaid late. Because the Beninois Ministry of Finance has imposed restrictions on the amount of money Alidé can send to Kiva, the organization can only send monthly repayments in installments smaller than $13,000. This means that some Kiva lenders may receive their repayments late. However, Alidé remains a healthy institution in good standing with its creditors, and Kiva would like to continue working to support its clients. In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee.
