In this Group: Sonia Edelmira, Digna Fabiola, Diana Elizabeth, Luz Mercedes, Nelis Faviola, Ana Clotilde, María Ana, María Isabel, Livia Margarita, Hernan Bolivar
The San Luís communal bank has 9 female members and 1 male member who live in the Paute canton, a place that has a privileged climate which yields all types of fruits. The temperate climate of these lands is favorable for growing flowers, the most beautiful of which are exported. The gastronomy is very diverse, the people are kind, gentle and of a good heart, and they still maintain the culture and traditions of their villages.

One of the members of this group is María Isabel. She is a member of the San Luís communal bank, and became a part of this group a year and a half ago. She lives in the community of Uzhupud, is 68 years old and is a widow. Her marriage produced 5 children that are now older, married and living independently. She lives in the company of a granddaughter whom she raised like a daughter from 2 months of age, and who now is almost 5 years old. She had her own house which she lost, as it was very deteriorated from the passing of the years. She now lives in a rented house.

In order to help her granddaughter get ahead, María Isabel works raising and selling chickens and guinea pigs. This business allows her to spend time in the house taking care of her granddaughter. She will use her new loan to purchase pigs, animal feed, and manure to improve her pastures. Her greatest dream is to be healthy and to do all she can to help her granddaughter succeed.

The two small photos are of a female and a male member who could not be present when the photo of the group was taken.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
