Update on Narcisa Del Jesús

The Communal Bank "Progreso Del Mar" meets every 15 days in the beautiful resort of San Mateo in the city of Manta. The city is known for its beautiful beaches that are visited a lot during all times of the year by national and foreign tourists. In this place the majority of the people make a living fishing and in other sea related trades.

Here Nacisa lives, whom is 49 years old. She is married and from this relationship she has three children who are already of older and independent. Her husband is a fisherman.

Several years ago she learned the dress making trade in a local academy. She now has a small sewing shop in her house. She makes all types of clothing but what she likes to make the most is women and girls' clothing. During the back to school season she also makes uniforms. Everything that she makes is by orders that her customers make to her and sometimes certain shops in Manta request that she make garments, especially children's clothing, so that they can sell them in their shops. She has had her shop for ten years and she is almost never lacking work.

She is requesting another loan since the other was very useful for her because she urgently needed money to buy materials to make school uniforms. With this she also obtained good earnings that served her well since her husband had been sick and she could use these earnings for the doctor and medicine. Now he is better and if it had not been for her earnings she would not have covered these expenses. This new loan is to be used to buy fabrics, thread, buttons and other sewing materials. She has been with the communal bank since its beginning and she likes everything about the bank.

Her dream is to be in very good health.

Concurrent and Successive Loans

Our Field Partners often work with borrowers over a series of loans as the borrowers build credit, take out bigger loans, and expand their businesses. In order to make it easier for our Field Partners to post loans for borrowers who have been listed on Kiva before, we allow them to post successive and concurrent loans for their Kiva borrowers. This means that our Field Partners are able to post a borrower's second, third, etc., loan on Kiva without having to re-enter all of the borrower's information.

This borrower has been listed on Kiva before, so you'll see an updated loan description, as well as excerpts of the original descriptions from earlier loans. Most borrowers take out loans consecutively, meaning that they receive a second loan after having repaid the first. However, sometimes our Field Partners give out concurrent loans, allowing borrowers to take out one primary loan and a secondary "add-on" loan along with it. These "add-on" loans are typically smaller than the borrower's primary loan and serve a different purpose. Because Field Partners can now post loans as successive and concurrent loans, you will be able to track borrower progress over time and see the various ways a borrower is working with our Field Partners through funds from Kiva’s lenders.
