Amparo Gladys
After working many years as a housemaid, Amparo decided five years ago to start her own business to be able to be closer to her home and take care of her five children. It was then that a friend taught her to make a great variety of food and she began to offer food service to her neighbors, family members and friends. Currently, her business keeps growing and, thanks to the possibility to have her own business in her house, she can offer her five children a better quality of life being their caregiver. Additionally, the income for the home has increased from the potential to contribute a greater quantity along with her husband to pay the bills. Thanks to her customers requesting that she sell fast food, Amparao is looking for a loan to buy a fast food cart with which she can prepare food and satisfy her customers' needs.

Her greatest dream is that this business keeps growing so that her children and her husband can enjoy better income in the house and a better quality of life. Amparo's hope is that her business allows her to provide for her five children the access to a good quality education and it is for this that she works so hard every day.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
