Rose is a farmer in rural Nkubu, where she lives with her husband and three adult children. She has been in farming for ten years. It is her sole source of income for family upkeep.
Rose has requested a loan of 60,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to help her construct a zero-grazing unit. She will buy barbed wire to fence her land in zero-grazing portions. She says this will help her manage the challenge of high feed costs and improve her income.
She desires to have at least four dairy cows and expand her land to grow more nappier grass.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
