Khim's Group
In this Group: Khim, Yorn, Choeurn, Yoeurn, Chanda
Khim, 36, is married with two children, one daughter and one son, one of whom is dependent on her and in school. She is from a rural area in the Sampov Meas district of Pursat province in which rice farming is the most common business for villagers and is Khim's family's main source of income. She also supplements the income by planting corn. Khim has been involved in these businesses for more than ten years and is able to earn approximately 20,000 KHR per day. Lack of water supply is the main challenge for her crop yields.

Khim's loan group consists of five members who live in the same village. She and two other members have been with VisionFund for two cycles, another has been for one cycle, and the remaining one is a newly joined client. The past loans, which she has repaid successfully, have helped Khim to manage her family’s business properly and to sustain her family’s livelihood. Now, she is leading her group to apply for a loan. Khim will to use her loan portion, an amount of 1,400,000 KHR, to buy fertilizer for her farmland, and use a portion of it to buy corn seeds. She hopes to make more income so as to set aside some money to fulfill her dream of having a decent house.

About VisionFund Cambodia

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
