Mildred is a 31-year-old woman with two children who are 13 and 7 years old. She is married to Francis, a school inspector. Together they operate a shop selling a variety of consumer goods. She says that it has been a profitable project and she wishes to expand this business to a wholesale shop in future. She is working hard to ensure that her children are educated. They live in a rental house though she says that they have plans to construct their house soon. She is taking out a loan of KSH 50,000 to add stock of rice, beans, salt, and other fast selling products. However, she says that her greatest challenge is high transport costs.
About Yehu Microfinance Trust
This loan is administered by Yehu Microfinance Trust, which was founded in 1998 as a project of CHOICE Humanitarian Kenya. In July 2007, Yehu became a separate entity from CHOICE and was registered as a trust. Since then, Yehu has expanded to cover over half of Kenya’s 13 coastal districts.
