Pablo is married and has 2 children who are school-aged. They live in two rooms in his parents' house. The house is located in the Sopocachi neighborhood of the city of La Paz.
He is currently earning income from his work providing passenger transportation in the urban area. He works 10 hours a day, because he needs to cover his family's expenses for food, education and basic services. He is requesting a loan to pay for maintenance work on his vehicle (oil change, brake check, filter changes), because he needs to maintain his vehicle as it is the only source of work that he has to support his family.
Pablo's dream is to acquire a house through an "anticretico" (a type of lease arrangement), so that he can provide more comfort to his family and improve their quality of life. This is the first time that he has taken a loan from IMPRO and Kiva.
IMPRO is a small non-profit organization that has been offering micro credit to the working poor in the Bolivian cities of La Paz and El Alto since 1995. IMPRO’s goal is to fight poverty by offering loans to small business owners who cannot access credit through the regular banking system due to a lack of guarantees or collateral.
To ensure that everyone has access to credit, IMPRO maintains a low interest rate by minimizing operational costs. IMPRO’s partnership with Kiva, which began in 2007, has allowed IMPRO to expand its services while maintaining these low interest rates.
