Norma
Norma is 39 years old and lives in the city of Latacunga. Latacunga is the capital of Cotopaxi, a province located in the central Ecuadorian sierra.The climate is mild, with an average temperature of 12°C. The city is known for its beautiul surroundings in the Andean range and for being on the slopes of the highest active volcano in the world, Cotopaxi, which has destroyed the city twice since it was founded. Latacunga has a very pleasant colonial style. It is also representative of Ecuadorian folklore, as it as its traditional festivals such as La Mama Negra that combines indigenous, Spanish and Afro-Ecuadorian traditions.

Norma is divorced and lives alone with her children. Twenty five years ago, she started her street vendor business selling watches, clocks and batteries for these, with the help of her sister. She works more than eight hours a day to increase her income and be able to get her children ahead. Through the Fundación Alternativa, Norma is asking for a Kiva loan to be able to have her own watch/ clock shop to improve her quality of her services, offer better products and do all this in a more organized way. In thi that she s way, she will be able to grow her business. She wants to give her children a secondary and post-secondary education that she never had. With the loan, she will buy replacement parts and tools to work independently.

Norma tiene 39 años y viven en la ciudad de Latacunga. Latacunga es la capital de Cotopaxi, provincia ubicada en la Sierra central ecuatoriana. El clima es templado y tiene una temperatura promedio de 12°C. La ciudad se caracteriza por un bello paisaje de la cordillera de los Andes y estar en las faldas del volcán activo más alto del mundo, el Cotopaxi, que ya ha destruido a la ciudad dos veces desde su fundación. Latacunga tiene un estilo colonial muy agradable. Es también representante del folclor ecuatoriano, pues tiene festividades como la Mama Negra que junta tradiciones indígenas, españolas y afroecuatorianas.

Norma es divorciada y vive sola con sus hijos. Hace 25 años empezó su negocio ambulante de venta de relojes y baterías para los mismos con la ayuda de su hermana. Trabaja más de ocho horas diarias para incrementar sus ingresos y poder sacar adelante a sus hijos. Por medio de Fundación Alternativa, Norma solicita un crédito a Kiva para poder tener su relojería propia para poder mejorar la calidad de sus servicios, ofrecer mejores productos y de una manera más organizada. De esta manera podrá incrementar su negocio y quiere darles a sus hijos la educación secundaria y superior que ella nunca tuvo. Con el crédito comprará repuestos y herramientas para desempeñarse de manera independiente.
