At the age of 63 years old, Sam Ol is a widower father of nine children living in the Kandal Stoeung district of Kandal province, Cambodia. He has earned a living through rice farming on a hectare of farmland for almost 40 years. He manages to earn approximately USD 7 per day from his current business. Low crop yields caused by drought remain the main challenge for him. Sam Ol has been with VisionFund for three cycles and successfully paid back the past loan, which has helped him to have a motorbike for family use. Now he is requesting a loan in the amount of USD 400. With this loan, he will buy a cow for plowing his farmland. He hopes to increase his income so as to improve his standard of living.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
