Greetings from Peru! Teodora belongs to the group Juventud y Desarrollo-Chupaca (Youth and Development-Chupaca). This group has already been working with EDAPROSPO for more than a year. It is made up of nine people, among them one man and the rest are women. It is a very charismatic and supportive group among its members. Teodora is a 41-year-old woman, married with two children, the oldest is 12 years old and the second child is only three years old. She has been working in this business for more than six years. Everything began because what her husband earned wasn’t enough as her oldest child had to begin to study in a school and the expenses of those studies weren’t able to be covered with the little amount that her husband earned. This made Teodora start selling some vegetables that she planted in the garden of her own house and as her customers asked her for other vegetables she decided to implement in her business buying other vegetables that she couldn’t cultivate.

With the requested loan she will buy a large quantity of potatoes, onions, garlic and other vegetables so that her earnings will be better. She dreams of a time when she has her own stall for her sales since she only sells her vegetables as a street seller in different markets and squares in her town. Improving her income, Teodora is sure that she will be able to give to her children everything that she didn't have when she was young, since her parents were in a very humble condition.

Teodora gives thanks to everyone who invests in all of the stories of hardworking people.

Teodora is dressed in a polo shirt and red apron and is the second person from the right in the second row.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
