Greetings! On this occasion I’d like to introduce you to Yudy, a member of the “Mujeres Emprendedoras-Chilca” group that has 10 members. All of them are very enterprising and hardworking and dream with providing their children with a better quality of life and showing that they are also independent and can get ahead by means of their own efforts.

Yudi is the mother of two children one who is school age and the other who is still too young for school. Her husband went abroad in order to send them money but because it wasn’t enough Yudy gathered a bit of capital together and opened a small grocery store. At the age of 28 she’s suffered much raising her children by herself but with this business her income has improved and this is why she’s asked for a loan to buy merchandise to sell in her store like rice, sugar, noodles, oil, milk, etc. She dreams in the future to be reunited with her husband in her country and to be able to educate their children together which is why she works hard so that the store will grow and income will increase.

She says thank you for the support provided and for believing in her dreams. Yudy is wearing a dark gray sweater; she has a big smile and is the first one on the right in the front row.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
