Mrs. Lan, age 34, earns a living by raising poultry and cattle. She and her husband have three children and live in a rural town in Thanh Hoa province. She is the group leader of the 3.14.171.Thieu Khanh solidarity group, which consists of six members. Mrs. Lan works hard to support her children with her business, which she has run for five years.

One of Mrs. Lan's most critical business difficulties is lack of capital. This will be her first loan with Thanh Hoa Fund for Poor Women. She is requesting a loan in order to purchase chicks to raise and sell.

With her business profit, Mrs. Lan intends to ensure that her business continues to do well. She also hopes eventually to buy land of her own. Her primary goal is to make enough money to continue to provide for her children.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
