For three years in Bacolod, Ozamis City, Misamis Occidental, Melfie, a 37-year-old married mother of one child, has made a living through the operation of a general store selling a variety of food and home-use products. She earns 10,000 PHP a month for these activities.
In 2010, Melfie joined GDMPC. She is requesting a loan of 17,400 PHP to purchase new items such as candies, milo, shampoo, soaps etc. She plans to use the additional revenue generated from the loan as a reserve for future emergencies.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
