Gabriela
Gabriela is a young woman, 22 years old, who lives with her grandmother and small child, aged 2, in the community of San Rafael in the district of Florencia, in the canton of San Carlos in Alajuela Province. This rural community shows great potential for development through its farming activities. The area has a warm climate which encourages the production of certain fruits that are better adapted to this type of weather, such as mangoes, melons and others that are native to the area. Other activities, such as stock breeding also stand out.

The Florencia area is known for its national parks and its extensive variety of flora and fauna.

Gabriela works from her home because she has to take care of her grandmother as well as her child. She has a sewing workshop but only has one sewing machine and is requesting a loan of 500,000 colones to expand her equipment. She needs another overlock machine, fabric, thread and accessories, among other items.

She is a member of the Empresa de Credito Communal Bank of SCSAR S.A. This will be her first loan and she is very grateful for the opportunity to access the loan that is being offered to her and for being able to bring her project to fruition.

Gabriela es una joven de 22 años de edad y vive con su abuela y su pequeño hijo de dos años de edad en la comunidad de San Rafael de Florencia de San Carlos, en la provincia de Alajuela. Esta comunidad rural presenta mucho potencial de desarrollo a través de las actividades agrícolas. La zona posee un clima caliente, lo que permite la producción de ciertas frutas que se desarrollan con más fuerza gracias a este tipo de clima como el mango, el melón y otros propios de la zona, también se destaca actividades tales como el ganado de engorde.
La localidad de Florencia se caracteriza por sus parques nacionales y su extensa variedad en la flora y en la fauna.
Gabriela trabaja desde su casa porque debe cuidar tanto a su abuela como a su hijo, ella tiene un proyecto que es un taller de costura pero solo tiene una máquina de coser , solicita un crédito de quinientos mil colones (¢500.000) para ampliar su equipo, necesita otra máquina overlock, telas, hilos, accesorios entre otros materiales.
Ella es miembro de la Empresa de Crédito Comunal de SCSAR S.A, este será su primer préstamo razón por la cual está muy agradecida, por las oportunidades de acceso al crédito que esta le brinda y poder llevar a cabo sus proyecto.

As a small and relatively young MFI located in Costa Rica, EDESA has difficulty attracting other sources of capital. Many other microfinance funders do not work in Costa Rica, because overall the country is too rich. However, organizations such as EDESA work with extremely marginalized populations in Costa Rica that really need the access to capital that EDESA provides.
