Zijovaddin
Zijovaddin is an elderly man. All of his children are married, and the sons are working in the Russian Federation together with their mother. They have a permanent residence and work there and send money home monthly. Zijovaddin saves this money and looks after a large family here. His daughters-in-law and grandchildren live with him. All of the responsibilities lay on his shoulders. Zijovaddin does not sit without work. He fattens up livestock at home, and his grandsons help him with this. Zijovaddin wants to buy several more heads of small livestock and increase his turnover. There is currently a lot of grass in the mountains, which makes it advantageous to fatten up livestock at this time. He hopes to make a good profit, and if business goes well, plans to partner with us permanently.

About MDO Arvand

MDO Arvand is one of the leading microfinance institutions in Tajikistan, offering small loans to entrepreneurs to start and grow their businesses. This makes an enormous difference in a country, which is not only the poorest in Central Asia, but also home to a population where two-thirds live below the poverty line. Today, Tajikistan's economy literally depends on remittances being sent from family members working abroad in Russia because there are so few local job opportunities.

But Arvand loans have been able to make a difference and change lives. Read about some of the incredible success stories they have seen here in this Kiva blog post: Bringing hope to Tajikistan with Arvand -- one success story at a time.
