This group of energetic women has played a dynamic role in the activities of the Banc Villageois ever since its inception in 2009. A great atmosphere fills the gatherings of the members, who work in small trade.

Mrs. Aminata (sitting at the far right with her hand raised) is the featured borrower from this group. She is a 42-year-old married woman without any dependent children. She has a refrigerator where she keeps the juices that she prepares including bissap (hibiscus flower), pain de singe (baobab fruit) and other local fruit juices.

She will use this loan to buy 30,000 CFAF worth of bags of pain de singe, a sufficient amount of bissap, and one bag of sugar to last through the rainy season.

In addition to covering electricity costs, the profits will allow her to care for her father and add to her savings.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
