Hamdije
Hamdije is in her early seventies and married. Two of her children are grown up and married. One of her children had an accident sometime ago, which is why Hamdije is still working: to support him. They live in a rocky village in the central eastern part of Albania. She is known by everyone in the village for her personable nature.

Hamdije started a wholesale food distribution business five years back. She would like to buy some more inventory and repair her store as well. This will be her third loan request, one for 200,000 ALL, from VisionFund Albania (kindly note that she has paid her previous loans off on time). With her profits she will be able not only to take care of her son but also improve on their living conditions.

Yet Hamdije appreciates that this loan situation is different: it is through Kiva. She is gratified by all of the support from potential Kiva lenders.

About VisionFund Albania

VisionFund Albania is a micro-finance subsidiary of child hunger nonprofit World Vision International. Striving to improve child welfare, the organization offers a variety of loan products designed for rural, traditionally underserved clients and their families. These products include agriculture, business and household improvement loans, as well as "integration loans" targeted to help the poorest, most vulnerable Albanian households acquire value chain resources.

While VFA is focused on the empowerment of the poor overall, it pays special attention to women. About 60% of loans to entrepreneurs on Kiva go to women.
