Our customer Kavira, 38 years old, is the leader of the Asifiwe Yesu loan group. She is married and the mother of seven young children. Her husband is a driver. Kavira sells palm oil. She launched he business with a loan from IMF Hekima around 2005. At present, she is on her 24th loan cycle. She says that she has benefited a lot from the Hekima microloan program. This new loan will allow her to stock up by buying six casks of palm oil. In the future, her goal is to buy a car for her husband. She thanks Hekima for its support and for helping small business run by women become independent.

La cliente Kavira est présidente d’un groupe de crédit Asifiwe Yesu, âgée de 38 ans. Elle est mariée et mère de 7 jeunes enfants. Son mari est un chauffeur. La cliente est vendeuse d’huile de palme. Elle commença son entreprise avec le crédit de l’IMF Hekima vers les années 2005. Actuellement, elle est au 24e cycle de crédit. HEKIMA is a microfinance institution headquartered in Goma, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), with branch offices in Goma and Bukavu. HEKIMA aims to contribute to the transformation of the economic, social, and spiritual lives of the economically active poor of the DRC. To this end, HEKIMA provides its clients with solidarity group loans to support income-generating activities. Despite ongoing instability and violence in its operating areas, HEKIMA continues to keep its doors open and provide credit and savings services for its over 90% female clientele.

The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee.
